Pokémon: How to sell

Given that the condition of the cards are fundamental during a sale, we always recommend providing detailed photos, which should be made on a black background in order to emphasize all the details of the card. Honesty and accuracy, in providing detailed and high-quality images, are expressions of seriousness and professionalism when dealing with a sale or a purchase.

We analyze below the main sale channels:

  • EBAY: One of the largest sale portals, so it is recommended to sell any kind of card in any condition here.

There are two types of sale: “Buy it now/purchase proposal” and “auction”.

We recommend choosing the auction type as it is easier to maximize the value of the card itself.

To protect yourself, it is essential to make detailed photos and videos of the card as well as of the packing and shipping process in order to avoid dispute. By doing so, you will be prepared in the event of needing to claim the legitimacy of the sale, if necessary.

Regarding fees, eBay retains 10% + 4% if you use PayPal, so the selling price subtracts 14%.

  • FACEBOOK BUYING AND SELLING GROUPS: Facebook also has groups for buying and selling collectable cards. The boom in this sector is more active and thriving than ever. We advise you to manage the first transaction in a Facebook group in order to learn and also to create contacts with people who can be helpful in the early stages, when you are still a novice.

The sale procedure is very simple: first of all, it is good to post detailed photos by including your name on a sheet of paper (or any other way). After arousing interest, (visible in the comments of the post) you can start selling your cards by modifying and enriching the post and turning it into a sale post.

It is good to specify the time of expiry of the post. For example, when holding an auction, include time, minutes and seconds (e.g. the auction/claim will expire in 48h at 21:59:59) in order to verify that who has entered the highest bid, will have done it by the deadline of the sale/auction.

The average time of these posts is about 3 days to maximize the exposure.

After this phase, you can simply comment with other cards that you own, following the same procedures.

Sales formats are almost the same in all Facebook groups:

  • CLAIM FIXED PRICE: Used for cards with low price fluctuation. The card is awarded to the first who writes “Claim” in the comments of the post.

  • CLAIM MIN/MAX: You need to define a minimum price, at which you are willing to sell, and a maximum price, that will be the equivalent of a Claim. This mode is used for cards with a slightly more variable price range.

  • AUCTION: In this case you act as in a real auction that will end at the deadline you entered. If you want to define a price below which not to sell, you can simply enter a reserve price. This mode is often used for cards with high value and highly sought after.

  • LIVE: Consists of a live in a Facebook group with several participants that could buy through the chosen mode (Claim, Auction, etc.). In this case the auctions have a duration of about 3 minutes per card. It is a mode used for those who have large numbers of cards (100-200).

Individual sealed packages are also often sold and they can be opened live (subject to payment). By doing so it is easier to sell large quantities of packages, ensuring a more substantial margin. If the package is very attractive, you can sell it and open it live.

The average duration of a live is about 2-3 hours.

In this case, we will be paid by the platform that will hold the money pending until the shipment is confirmed and the recipient receives the product. This mode protects both parties and the platform retains 5% of the sale price.
